Munster High School’s basketball team enters the 2025-26 season with significant expectations despite experiencing substantial roster changes. Junior guard Troy Jarrett is preparing for an increased role in the Mustangs’ rotation.
The team’s first game of the season is scheduled for December 12 at home against East Chicago Central, with tip-off set for 7 p.m. at Munster High School.
According to head coach Mike Hackett, the Mustangs concluded last season with a record of 16-8 and maintained their impressive conference streak of 42 consecutive victories, achieving eight straight undefeated seasons. Hackett will be returning with only three players from last year’s team and anticipates that his squad will develop progressively under the leadership of senior scorer Josh Malloy and Jarrett, who joined the starting lineup midway through the previous season. Hackett commended Jarrett’s progress over the summer and fall, highlighting improvements in confidence, consistency, and his ability to influence winning outcomes.
Jarrett stated, “Maintaining the conference streak remains a motivating factor for this team, no one wants to be responsible for letting that standard decline.”
With young players stepping into varsity roles and experienced members setting the tone, Munster aims to compete with the same resilience and execution that have been key to their ongoing success.
Jarrett intends to continue growing as a leader while enhancing his ball-handling and shooting skills to guide a largely new-look lineup.
