The Munster Mustangs dropped their Northwest Crossroads Conference opener Friday night, falling 41-7 on the road against Hobart. The result moved the Mustangs to 0-3 overall and 0-1 in league play.
Munster showed resilience in the first half, moving the ball with short passes and runs to keep drives alive. The Mustangs’ lone scoring drive came in the opening half, giving the team a boost of momentum. But Hobart answered with sustained possessions of its own, building a 35-0 lead by halftime that proved difficult to overcome.
Defensively, Munster competed with energy early, forcing third-down situations and slowing Hobart’s rhythm on several series. As the game wore on, however, Hobart’s depth and efficiency created separation. The second half saw Munster’s defense continue to battle, but field position and extended drives kept pressure on the unit.
On offense, the Mustangs worked to establish consistency but struggled to finish possessions against a disciplined opponent. Coaches emphasized positives from the effort, pointing to improved stretches and opportunities to build upon.
Though still seeking their first win, Munster remains focused on growth. With conference play underway, the Mustangs look to regroup and turn lessons from Friday’s game into progress in the weeks ahead.
