Munster’s boys wrestling team placed second overall at the Northwest Crossroads Conference Championships, powered by one individual champion and a deep group of podium finishers across the lineup.
The conference tournament was held Saturday, Jan. 17, at Lowell High School, bringing together programs from across the NCC to compete for individual titles and team points.
Derek Bobb led the Mustangs with a conference championship at 157 pounds. Diego Betancourt earned a runner-up finish at 126, Luis Gomez placed second at 132, and Wesaal Wardak added a second-place showing at 190. Noah Cunningham (106), Julian Gonzales (113), Nash Burke (120), Ricky Wyatt (144), and Kaleb Moore (165) each recorded third-place finishes, while Noah Prieto (138), Martin Casas (150), Cameron Lindsey (175), Jeovani Trejo (215), and Andre Jimenez (285) placed fourth.
Munster totaled 226 team points, with a one-point deduction assessed for an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty, but still secured second place in the final team standings behind a balanced effort throughout the weight classes.
Up next, Munster will compete in the IHSAA Sectional on Jan. 31 at East Chicago Central High School, with wrestling scheduled to begin at 8 a.m.
