The Munster High School girls cross country team secured a fourth-place finish with 121 points at the Tippecanoe County Amphitheater meet on September 6.
The competition featured 24 teams, including Benton Central, Bloomington South, Crawfordsville, Fountain Central, Goshen, Hanover Central, Hebron, Highland, LaPorte, Lake Central, Lawrence North, Lowell, New Prairie, Penn, Pike, Portage, Rensselaer Central, Rossville, Seeger, Twin Lakes, West Lafayette Harrison, Western, Westfield and Wheeler. Individually for Munster High School, top performers included Elora Bliss who placed 11th with a time of 19:03; Lekha Patel who finished 12th at 19:12; and Sophia Pulieava who clocked in at 19:58. Many runners achieved personal bests despite a challenging training week.
Munster’s only losses so far have been against higher-ranked squads such as Lake Central and Valparaiso. Bloomington South won the meet with 61 points. Lake Central finished second with 70 points and West Lafayette Harrison was third with 100 points.
The Munster team continues to improve and gain experience as athletes build endurance and speed throughout the season. The team is set to compete next at the Bob Thomas Invitational in Lowell on Saturday.
Final standings were as follows: Bloomington South with 61 points; Lake Central with 70 points; West Lafayette Harrison with 100 points; Munster with 121 points; and Portage with 156 points.
